AI Product Descriptions: ChatGPT or an App Inside Salla?

You're sold on AI for your product descriptions, but which way: ChatGPT with copy and paste, or an app installed in Salla? An honest comparison, and when a general chatbot is enough.

ChatGPT or an app inside Salla: which is better for writing your product descriptions with AI? If you have only a few products and enjoy writing and refining prompts, a general chatbot such as ChatGPT or Gemini is enough. If you have many products, sell in Arabic and English, or want the description, SEO title and meta description to land in their Salla fields without copy and paste, an app connected to your store saves you a lot of steps. Either way, reviewing before you publish is your job.

You already know AI can take a lot of the writing off your plate, so we won't argue that here. The next question is: do you work from a chat window and move the text yourself, or install an app inside Salla that works on your products directly? Let's compare the two in practice: the steps for each product, the data the tool sees, SEO fields, two languages, a consistent store voice, working on dozens of products, and how you pay. We'll also say plainly when a general chatbot is all you need.

What's the basic difference between the two?

It isn't about which one is "smarter". It's about where the work happens:

  • A general chatbot, such as ChatGPT or Gemini, knows only what you type or paste about your product, and you move the result to the product page in Salla.
  • An app inside Salla is connected to your store. It reads product data from the store itself and returns the draft to the same product, so you can review and publish it.

So the real question is: how many times will you repeat the copying, and how many products do you have?

What does the work look like per product in ChatGPT?

Let's walk through one product, from its page in Salla to a published description:

  1. Open the product in Salla and copy its name, specifications and options.
  2. Paste them into the chat with your prompt and your store's style instructions.
  3. Read the draft and ask for changes until it's right.
  4. Ask for an SEO title and a meta description of a suitable length, since they won't be written on their own.
  5. Copy each part and paste it into its field in Salla.
  6. If your store has two languages, do it all again for the English version.

For one or two products, that's simple and nothing more is needed. With 80 products, the copying becomes a job of its own. Small copy-paste mistakes also repeat: pasting one size's description on another size's page, forgetting the meta description, or updating the specifications in Salla but not in the description.

If you choose this route, a clear request matters most. We've prepared a ready product description prompt you fill with your data, and if you want the structure of the description itself by product type, see ready product description templates for each category.

What data does the tool get in each case?

A chatbot works only with what you give it. If you forget to mention the weight or material, it either ignores it or guesses, and a guess in a description is risky because it becomes a promise to the customer.

An app connected to Salla starts from your store's data. In Wasef, for example, your products are imported from Salla, and generation uses the product's name, current description, categories and SKU, plus details such as brand, weight, options and tags when they're recorded in Salla. When you edit the product in Salla, the update reaches Wasef.

One caution: the app can't know information that isn't in your store. If the product data is incomplete or copied from the supplier as is, complete it first. We've explained how to turn a supplier description into one that belongs to your store without losing the specifications.

What about the SEO title and meta description?

A Salla product page has fields beyond the description: the page title and description that appear in search results, and the page URL. We've covered what to write in each SEO field of a Salla product.

In a general chatbot, you ask for them separately, watch their length yourself, then move them over field by field.

In Wasef, the draft covers the product fields together: name, description, subtitle and promotion title, plus SEO title, meta description and page URL, with suggested keywords. The draft is saved in Wasef, and publishing it to Salla is a separate step you take after reviewing.

Does it write in Arabic and English?

A chatbot can write in English if you ask, but you request each version and move it into its field. And if you ask for a literal translation of the Arabic, the English can come out heavy or odd to the reader.

Wasef writes the fields in Arabic and English if English is enabled in your store. In bulk generation, it adapts the Arabic version into English rather than writing each language from scratch, and each version goes to its own language's fields in Salla when you publish. Review both versions before publishing.

How do you keep your store's voice consistent?

If you write each description in a new chat, every product can end up with a different tone. With a general chatbot, the fix is to keep your style instructions in a file, paste them with every request, and check they were followed.

Wasef has a "brand voice": you describe your store's personality and tone, the words you prefer, the phrases you avoid, how a description is structured, and an example of your style. Wasef can draft the voice for you from 3 or more descriptions already in your store, and you edit it. You then pick the voice when generating, and bulk generation uses your store's default voice. The number of voices depends on the plan: one on Lite and Basic, and 3 on Pro.

What if I have dozens of products?

This is where the difference shows most. In a general chatbot, you either go product by product, or paste a list of products into one request, which raises the chance of one product's specifications slipping into another's description.

In Wasef, you select a group of products, up to 50 per batch, and it writes each product's fields separately from its own data. The drafts are saved in Wasef as unpublished products; you review them and then publish to Salla, one at a time or in bulk. You can also ask it to write alt text for photos that have none. Note that this is saved straight to Salla, without the publish step. The full walkthrough is in bulk generation for several products in Wasef.

How does the cost differ?

General chatbots have their own plans and limits, and these change over time, so check the pricing page of the tool itself. The cost people usually forget is their own time spent copying, pasting and reviewing for each product.

Wasef is a monthly subscription from the Salla App Store, and each plan includes a monthly generation credit allowance. According to the app page at the time of writing:

  • Lite: 49 SAR a month, 2,000 generation credits, owner only, and one brand voice.
  • Basic: 99 SAR a month, 5,000 credits, 2 store team members including the owner, and one voice.
  • Pro: 199 SAR a month, 10,000 credits, 5 members including the owner, and 3 voices.

Prices on the app page exclude 15% VAT, and every plan has a 7-day free trial without a card. In bulk generation, credit is deducted only after generation succeeds and the draft is saved. Check the app page before subscribing, as details can change.

Reviewing is on you either way

Neither ChatGPT nor any app spares you the review. Any AI tool can get a number wrong, add a feature that doesn't exist, or overpromise. Before publishing:

  • Match numbers, sizes and models against the product data.
  • Remove any feature or promise the specifications don't support.
  • Make sure the description matches the product and option shown.
  • Read the SEO title and meta description as a customer seeing them in search results.

The difference here is that in the app, the draft is saved on the same product, and publishing to Salla is a separate step. As for worrying about Google, what matters is that the description is useful and accurate, not which tool wrote it. We cover this in Does Google penalize AI-written content?.

When is ChatGPT enough?

Decision chart: is a general chatbot such as ChatGPT enough for writing your product descriptions? If you have dozens of products or add them all the time, an app connected to your store is a better fit, and in Wasef you select up to 50 products per batch. If your store is in Arabic and English, Wasef writes the fields in both languages and each version goes to its own fields in Salla. If copy and paste bothers you or you want a consistent store voice, Wasef drafts the description and SEO fields together in your brand voice. If you answer no to all three, a general chatbot is enough. Either way, reviewing before publishing is your job, and if you're unsure, try both on one product and compare.
Three questions to tell whether a general chatbot is enough or an app inside Salla fits better.

Honestly, in many cases a general chatbot does the job:

  • You have few products and don't add new ones often.
  • Your store is in one language.
  • You enjoy writing and refining prompts, and copy and paste doesn't bother you.

An app inside Salla is likely a better fit if:

  • You have dozens of products, or add products all the time.
  • Your store is in Arabic and English and you want both versions in their fields.
  • You want a consistent store voice across all descriptions, or more than one person writes them.
  • You want the SEO title and meta description written with every product instead of remembering them each time.

If you're unsure, try both on one product and compare: how long it took, and how much you had to edit.

If you'd rather pay someone to write instead of using a tool, we compared an employee, a freelancer and an AI tool. You can read more about AI product descriptions with Wasef on its own page.
